Internet Safety Tips for All
-
Protecting Personal Information
- Secure Your Accounts
- Use strong, unique passwords for all of your accounts, and consider using a password manager. Never share your passwords, even with colleagues.
- Logout When Finished
- Always log out of any system or account after use, especially on shared, public, or easy to access devices.
- Avoid Phishing Scams
- Be cautious of emails from unknown senders, particularly those with attachments or links. Phishing attempts often mimic official communications, so verify the sender before responding or clicking on links.
- Limit Personal Sharing
- Avoid posting personal details, such as your home address, phone number, or vacation plans, on social media or public platforms. Even seemingly harmless information can be used maliciously by bad actors to target you.
- Secure Your Accounts
-
Maintaining Professional Boundaries
- Professional Communication:
- Use district-approved communication channels (Infinite Campus, email, etc.) for interacting with students and parents. Do not use personal email or social media accounts for school-related communication.
- Be Cautious with Online Interactions
- If you’re using social media, ensure your privacy settings are secure, and do not accept friend requests from students or parents on your personal accounts.
- Monitor Digital Footprint
- Regularly review your online presence. Ensure that all publicly accessible information aligns with your professional image (Facebook, X, TikTok, etc.)

- When students are using the internet in class, actively monitor their activity. Ensure they are accessing only safe, educational websites.
- Educate Students on Safe Practices
- Reinforce internet safety practices with students, such as not sharing personal information online and being cautious with unknown messages. We are all responsible for sharing our digital citizenship with our students.
- Report Suspicious Activity
- If you notice any suspicious online behavior or content that could pose a risk to students, report it immediately to technology immediately so we can act on it.

Protecting Devices and Data
- Update Software Regularly
- Ensure that your devices are updated with the latest security patches. We do a lot of this for you, but please try to restart your device about once a week to move the process along.
- Back Up Your Data
- Regularly back up important data to secure cloud storage or external drives. This protects against data loss from unsuspected sources. Google Drive, OneDrive, and iCloud are all good options for this.
- Use Secure Networks
- When accessing school accounts or sensitive information, use secure, password-protected networks. Avoid using public Wi-Fi for work-related activities.
