With next year’s proposed school calendar posted for input, we have heard from our community about considering the option of completing first-semester high school exams before students leave for the Christmas/Winter break in December.
While under NC state legislation, we are unable to start the school year earlier, it is possible to have a shorter 1st semester, and begin the 2nd semester following the Christmas/Winter break in January, and we would like your feedback.
All Juniors - You will take the required ACT on Feb. 27th at 8:30am. This college entrance exam is offered to our juniors as a one-time free opportunity on 2/27/18. You are highly encouraged to begin preparing now for this assessment. Use the following information to get started!
Mrs. Kaminski's students need your help! They are raising funds to learn about self sustaining small yard gardening. This will help them to learn about economic hardships and to sustain resources for future generations. With your donation her students will be able to purchase an outdoor greenhouse, shelving and seeds. Click here to learn more and to donate.
Give to her classroom by January 29 and your donation will be doubled thanks to DonorsChoose.org. Just enter the code LIFTOFF on the payment page and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $50).
Currently we have two semesters that are the same number of days. Would you prefer having a slightly shorter first semester followed by a longer second semester so that we could finish exams before winter/Christmas break?
Honoring students in our district that have achieved the goals of being an “Extraordinary Reader.” One student from each of our 35 schools is honored during Celebrations for achieving reading success for January.
RSS staff with the support of local and corporate donors delivered toys and food along the Yum Yum Bus route on December 21. Each family that came to the drop off point received a bag of food and a toy for each child.
Special thanks to Food Lion who both donated food and sent help to pack food bags for families.
