News Highlights

3rd Grade Person, Place or Event Posters

As part of a research and presentation project, our 3rd grade scholars recently got to choose a person, place or event to research. They then took their handwritten notes and modified a teacher-created template in Pages to create engaging posters about their topic. These posters are hung in the hallway so other scholars can benefit from their research and also learn about the person, place or event portrayed on the poster. Awesome work 3rd grade!

Body Systems Room Makeovers

How else do you introduce the human body if you’re not turning your rooms into operating rooms, muscle rooms, and bone rooms?Scholars transitioned through each of the rooms to have experiences related to the particular body system portrayed in the room.

Amazing room transformations and STEM integration by our third grade team!

Pictures from Aquarium Grant Visit to OES

We are so excited to have received an Aquarium Scholars grant through the North Carolina Aquarium Society! Today third and fourth-grade Overton scholars at C. T. Overton Elementary School are working with NC Aquarium staff from Jennette's Pier to explore wind energy by building wind turbines and modifying them to generate the most renewable energy! We are so excited to see their work through the engineering design process! A huge thank you to Ms. Meredith and Ms. Rachel for facilitating an exciting program and hands-on learning opportunity for our students!

Photos of student with Muddy Sneakers at park

This was an amazing day of learning about Forces and Motion in a natural setting. Students were hanging bear bags, exploring friction in various settings, observing how objects move down a hill, and exploring the natural movements of plants, insects, and animals. Thanks Muddy Sneakers for providing such an awesome experience for our scholars!
