Self-love and confidence are some of the key factors to any girl’s independence as she learns the world around her. Girls on the Run of the Greater Piedmont works with local schools to provide a physically-based, positive development program for third through fifth grade girls. Girls on the Run (GOTR) encourages girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others.
Girls that take part in GOTR in their schools meet weekly with trained teachers who discuss age-appropriate content, such as discovering who they are, valuing teamwork and recognizing how they can shape the world around them.
The West Rowan Elementary GOTR team traveled to Salisbury Community Park on November 14 to participate in the Fall 5K run. Over 1,000 participants were involved in making the 5k run a success. This run allowed for the girls and the community to come together to show their support. Having the support of the community continually encourages girls to always be themselves and strive to become who they want to be.
