RSS Announces Director for Horizons Unlimited

We are pleased to announce the following new leadership for Rowan-Salisbury Schools.


Elise Tellez

RSS welcomes Elise Tellez as the new Director for Horizons Unlimited. Ms. Tellez will report to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Dr. Jason Gardner.

Ms. Tellez most recently has served with the Muddy Sneakers program as both the Piedmont Program Director and currently as the Piedmont Field Office Director. Muddy Sneakers is an outdoor science education program used by numerous schools in Western NC and the Piedmont of NC, including RSS. The program implements the core science curriculum concepts through hands-on experiential teaching and learning methods. 

Ms. Tellez received her Bachelors in Biology Degree from the University of Dallas with a Concentration in Environmental Sciences. She also has received training in areas such as Inclusive Hiring; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; AFP Grant Writing; and with the American Red Cross to name a few.

Ms. Tellez brings with her a wealth of experiential education and leadership experience from across the country working in research, customer service, and lab instruction from locations such as Central Michigan University, the University of Dallas, the Don Lee Center, and the Alabama 4-H Science School.  Ms. Tellez has dedicated her career to connecting communities to science and nature, and she looks forward to continuing the work at Horizons Unlimited. In addition, Ms. Tellez has state and local volunteer experience with the following:

  • Environmental Educators of NC Board
  • Leadership Rowan with the Rowan Chamber
  • Rowan County Creek Steering Committee
  • Neighbor to Neighbor Nonprofit Networking Group

Ms. Tellez resides in Salisbury with her dog Bella.

Ms. Tellez is very excited about joining the Rowan-Salisbury team to continue working for the success, engagement, and enrichment of all our students.
