New Leadership Changes

Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody is pleased to announce the following new leaders for Rowan-Salisbury Schools.

Marae Reid


Ms. Reid currently serves as assistant principal at Overton.  She began her career in education as a kindergarten teacher and has taught at China Grove Elementary until becoming an assistant principal in 2007.  She has also been an adjunct professor in early childhood at Catawba College and an adult basic education instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.  She is active in the Salisbury community and has worked with the Human Relations Council.

Ms. Reid received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University.  She received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Catawba College and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from UNC-Charlotte.

She resides in Salisbury with her teenage son, Kendall.  Ms. Reid is very excited about continuing to serve the Overton community as their principal.

Jessica Rivas


Mrs. Rivas began her educational career as an elementary dual-language teacher. She also has experience as an English teacher and as a curriculum specialist. Mrs. Rivas currently serves as an assistant principal in Monroe, NC.

Mrs. Rivas received her Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Family Development/ Special Education from UNC-Charlotte.  She received a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Queen’s University and her Educational Specialist Degree from Appalachian State University.

Mrs. Rivas resides with her husband Fernando, daughter Trinity and sons Tristen and Teagen.  She is very excited to serve and meet the Hanford Dole students and families very soon.

Marvin Moore


Mr. Moore has been with Rowan-Salisbury Schools for almost 20 years serving 13 years as an administrator in the district.  He is currently the principal at Isenberg Elementary and also the Community Principal for the Salisbury Area schools.  He began his educational career as a health teacher and later as a PE teacher, an ISS coordinator and an assistant principal.  Mr. Moore was also an assistant men’s basketball coach at Catawba College.

Mr. Moore received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Catawba College, and he received his Master’s Degree in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University. 

He resides with his wife Jessica and their four children Sydni, Maliya, London and MJ.  Mr. Moore is very excited about serving Salisbury High as your new principal. 

Amy Pruitt

AMY PRUITT is the new principal for Rowan-Salisbury’s new K-8 VIRTUAL ACADEMY

Mrs. Pruitt has been with Rowan-Salisbury Schools for 30 years, and she is currently the director for Horizons Unlimited, a position she has held for 5 years.  She began her educational career as a classroom teacher and taught elementary and middle grades students for 25 years.  During this time, she was a 21st Century Model Classroom teacher, a teacher mentor, an AIG team teacher and the RSS STEM Mobile classroom teacher.  Mrs. Pruitt is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence & English Language Arts.

Mrs. Pruitt received her Bachelor’s Degree in K-6 Education from Lenoir-Rhyne College.  She received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Catawba College and her Master’s of School Administration Add-on from UNC-Wilmington. 

She resides with her husband Doug, and they have two daughters Brenna & Casey.  Mrs. Pruitt is very excited about serving as principal for the new K-8 Virtual Academy.

Rowan-Salisbury Schools Pilots State Renewal Program

The State of North Carolina passed HB 986 enabling qualifying school districts to become a renewal district. Currently only Rowan-Salisbury Schools district qualifies. On June 28th the RSS Board of Education elected to participate in this program. Click for details.
