Knox Garden Harvest

Students at Knox harvested from the garden they helped to plant earlier in the year. Ashley Honbarrier from Happy Roots has helped to cultivate our students while they cultivate food from a small garden located at the back of Knox.

Before heading to the garden, Honbarrier shared a book with the students from one of her favorite gardeners, Mr. Tony Hillery. The book, titled “Harlem Grown”, is a true story about a trashed city lot next to a school that becomes an urban garden.

Afterward, the students proceeded to the garden where they harvested 15 pounds of collard and mustard greens. Each student was able to take home a bag to their family.

After harvesting, work began on their next project. The students planted some pumpkin, green beans and other seeds in the greenhouse in preparation for the next round of plants in the garden.

West Rowan Middle School PBL Showcase

At West Rowan Middle School, students learn about Sustainability through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) also known as the Global Goals. The SDGs were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. WRMS students focus on 11 of the 17 goals which fall under the areas of: Environment, Economy, Equality, and Wellness.
