Kara Burnett, Rockwell Elementary School, wins the NC Science Teachers Association (NCSTA) District 6 Outstanding Elementary School Science Teacher for 2021

Kara Burnett, a teacher at Rockwell Elementary School will be presented with the 2021 NCSTA (North Carolina Science Teachers Association) District 6 Outstanding Elementary School Science Teacher Award at the annual 52nd NCSTA Awards Ceremony, on Thursday, November 4, 2021.

The NCSTA District Outstanding Science Teacher Award is given to a person exhibiting leadership in science education, contributing to improvements in science education and excelling in the aspects of science education. This honor is determined by other science educators throughout North Carolina and serves as recognition of Burnett’s professional excellence and contributions to science education in North Carolina.

“Mrs. Burnett works with all K-5 students at Rockwell Elementary School as the SPACE teacher. SPACE stands for Student Passions And Career Exploration. Mrs. Burnett exudes passion and enthusiasm for her career, this position and life in general,” said Principal Jennifer Warden. “She has worked tirelessly to transform what was previously our STEM program into a more engaging program of student experiences with career pathways and their exposures to various fields. The excitement she has been able to create with our students is unmatched.”
