CGMS Poetry Slam - May 25

Have your students written their own poems for National Poetry Month or some other time this year? Would you like for them to have an opportunity to share their poems with people outside your classroom? Would they want to have a chance to win some cool prizes just for sharing their poetry aloud? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then I have some great news for you! In just one short month, the media center will be hosting the 2018 Poetry Slam!! 

Here's what you need to know~
  Who:    any CGMS student 
  What:   Poetry Slam 2018
  When:  Friday May 25 1:00pm
  Where: CGMS Media Center
  How:    1. Student chooses an original work of poetry
             2. Student will read their poem aloud to a set of 3 judges (no props)
             3. Judges will choose winners 
             4. Winners get cool prizes

Students who wish to participate will need to submit the Google form and a copy of their poem to me by Monday May 21.

CGMS Poetry Slam - May 25

In just one short month, the media center will host the 2018 Poetry Slam!!   The Poetry Slam is a chance for students to share their poems and win some cool prizes.  The Poetry Slam is scheduled for Friday, May 25 at 1 PM.  Interested students must sign up by Monday, May 21 at http://bit.ly/2vPUEAq

Both South Rowan and Carson High Schools will host the "Guiding the College-Bound Athlete" program for students interesting in participating in athletics during college.

Program features will include:

  • How to get recruited
  • How to become academically eligible
  • How to get a scholarship or grant
  • How to set up college visits
  • Starting as early as 9th grade

 

Carson will host the program on Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30 PM in the auditorium.  South Rowan will host the program on Tuesday, May 29 at 6:30 PM in auditorium.  Both athletes and parents are encouraged to attend.

Students Recognized for 1st Quarter Honor Roll

Students on the 1st Quarter Honor Roll were recognized by the China Grove Middle PTA with an ice cream social.  Check out some of the highlights as well as advice from several of our students.

Rowan County Recyclers

Rowan County School students were offered the Go Green Challenge as a Problem Based Learning event. Winners were recognized at the April Board of Education meeting. There was a winning class for the Elementary and High School levels.

February Extraordinary Readers of the Month

Honoring students in our district that have achieved the goals of being an “Extraordinary Reader.” One student from each of our 35 schools is honored during Celebrations for achieving reading success for February.

Does your student love to cook? This is the camp for you! We will learn the basics of food safety, baking, knife skills, and planning meals all while having a BLAST. We will be working with the experts of Rowan-Salisbury Schools Food Service department and local restaurateurs who are leaders in the field of food service and hospitality. Future chefs will be in the making!

Rising 8th-10th graders

$100.00 camp fee
