Welcome to kindergarten at China Grove Elementary School! Kindergarten is a big step in a child’s life. We hope this guide will prove to be helpful to you as we begin our partnership in educating your child. We hope this will be an enjoyable experience for your child and that he/she will learn many new things. In order for your child to have a successful year, it takes a lot of cooperation between parents and teachers. Let’s work together to ensure that your child will have happy learning experiences. If at any time, you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call, Email or set up an appointment for a conference. Again, welcome to China Grove Elementary, and we look forward to working with you!

We are an A+ School which means that we are an arts integrated school. We use the arts in ELA, math, social studies, and science and our arts teachers use those subjects in their classrooms. We also provide students with opportunities in the arts. We believe that the arts allow students to be critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and creative. They learn there is more than one way to show their learning and it is very active and engaging. If you have questions about A+, please contact Mrs. Thomas or Mrs. Sechler.
Our instructional day begins at 8:30 am and ends at 3:30 pm. Students may be dropped off beginning at 8:00 am in our car circle and all students must be picked up by 3:50 pm. If you require before or after school care, please call the school office and we can refer you to several places that provide this care.
Tardy: Students must be in their classrooms by 8:30 am. Students who are not in class by that time will be counted tardy. A parent should accompany the child to the office and sign him/her in. When a student accumulates 10 tardies, a parent may be required to come in for a conference. Students on late buses will not be counted tardy.
Early Dismissal: Students may be signed out of school by a legal parent/custodian in the main office before 3:15 pm and the person checking out the student must show a valid Driver’s License or state issued ID. The person must be a custodial parent or someone listed on the child’s information sheet. A custodial parent may also send a note stating who is allowed to pick up the child on a particular date. We encourage parents to make all appointments before or after school so students have the benefit of being in the classroom during the instructional day. We will not allow parents to sign out children after 3:15 pm. You will have to wait until dismissal at 3:30 pm.
VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL
At this time, no visitors are allowed in the school building due to safety restrictions.
Please refer to the Rowan/Salisbury School’s Code of Conduct for a more detailed description of this policy.
All medications students take must be accompanied by the appropriate permission forms and be administered by a trained school employee. Please call the school for assistance. Students should never be in possession of any medication (prescription or over the counter). Parents must deliver and pick up all medications. Medications may not be transported by the student.
During the first week of school your child will be given a tag to attach to his/her book bag with transportation information on it, whether bus, or car. Your child should keep the tag on their bookbag. If your child is going home by a different form of transportation, send a note with your child. We do not allow your child to relay the message verbally. We can accept changes with a phone call to the front office or a message to the teacher in ClassDojo. This is for your child’s protection. If your child will be a car rider at any time during the year, you must get a car rider tag from the office staff. Place this tag on your car mirror. You must have the car tag present in the car rider line.
Please label items your child brings to school with his/her first and last name (book bags, jackets, sweaters, lunch boxes, etc. ). Items that are labeled make it easier to return to your child if lost.
UPDATED PHONE NUMBERS
It is important that we are able to get in touch with you (or a family member) while your child is at school. We never know when your child could become ill or when there could be a situation that we would need you immediately. Please help by keeping us informed of any work numbers, emergency numbers, and cell phone numbers. If any of these numbers should change throughout the year, a form from the office will need to be completed in order for this to be processed in the school database.
