Federal Programs

Rowan Salisbury School System receives funding from the Federal government to administer programs under its mandate. The primary goal of Federal Programs is to improve student achievement through increased parental involvement, teacher training, and student services. Improving the Academic Achievement of Disadvantaged Students.  Federal Assistance targeted to meet the needs of serving at-risk students in Reading and Math.  Qualifications are based on poverty levels using free/reduced lunch data and the application process.

The primary goals of Title II-A are to promote teachers, principal and paraprofessional quality through the strategies such as high quality professional development in core subject areas and to promote the retention and hiring of qualified teachers.

Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient students is provide under Title III funding. These funds are used to supplement state funding used to provide core language instruction.

Rowan-Salisbury Schools now has Spanish translation and interpreter services available in all 34 schools.  An interpreter is assigned to each school community.  All Exceptional Service interpreter/ translation needs still go through Lili Hernandez (elsa.landaverde@rss.k12.nc.us).  For all other services, please email Interpreters@rss.k12.nc.us or locate your school below.

Horizons Unlimited/Rowan Museum
Hands-on activities will provide a stimulating, educational and fun experience in celebrating the rich heritage of Rowan County. Each camp is staffed by museum personnel, local history teachers and local college history majors. Register by calling 704-633-5946 or emailing tdcreel@fibrant.com. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Rowan Museum Time Warp Camp (rising 3rd - 5th graders) explores Rowan County's early history. Students will visit historical properties in downtown Salisbury including the Utzman Chambers House, the Old English Cemetery, Freedman's Cemetery and the Old Stone House near Granite Quarry. Each participant will have the opportunity to experience Colonial living through the following activities during the week long camp:
  • Create a journal and practice writing with a quill
  • Locate historical burials and learn local stories of notable Salisburians
  • Learn how to shape and mold punched tin
  • Experience candle dipping, weaving fabrics and rugs, gardening, and outdoor cooking,
  • Introduction to recognizing antiques and artifacts

Time: 9am - 2pm
