The West Rowan Bulldogs won another tough battle against the Erwin Eagles by the score 20 - 0. The Bulldogs came out and marched down the field eating almost 6 minutes of the clock and scored on 15-yard run by Jason Caulder. The PAT was wide left, no good. The score was 6-0. The offensive line was led by Qadree Ziyad, Joshua Noble, Papa Brush, Ben Sweet, Zander Burton, Tre Garrison and Blake Oliphant. The defense played its usual aggressive style in shutting out the Eagles. Defense was led by Nigel McManus, Jason Caulder, Jason Artis, Johnny Hernandez, Jaedon Neal, and Drew Taylor. The defense made several big stops especially 3 different times on 4th down and short. Our defense forced the ball to be turned back over to our offense. Akin Robinson ran for 96 yards and a touchdown. He scored from 21-yards out. He had a 40-yard touchdown called back for holding so his rushing totals would have been 136 yards and two TD’s. Joshua Noble scored on the 2-point conversion to make it 14-0. After another awesome defensive stop, we had the ball back with 50 seconds left in the half when Jacob Joseph bounced outside for a 49-yard touchdown and the PAT was blocked to make the score 20-0. Joseph rushed for 79-yards on the day. The second half was a strange development. The Eagles did a great job at neutralizing our offense in the second half. They made several excellent adjustments causing us to change our game plan. It was a very physical game where players were going extremely hard to make plays. Nigel McManus was carted off the field in an ambulance with a hip injury. He played an excellent game. Both teams battled hard. No score in the third quarter. Then we had another serious injury with Jason Caulder colliding on a tackle causing his injury, he too was rushed to the hospital. This was with 1:53 seconds left in the game. The coach from Erwin showed a tremendous amount of class when stating, “coach our boys played real hard, why not call this game and take our boys home!” Both teams shook hands and then the boys led each of their teams to the 50-yard line to gather and pray for the boys that got injured during the game! Erwin showed a ton of compassion and class! Great job Erwin football players and coaches. West Rowan Bulldogs are home next week to take on the North Rowan Mavericks on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 4:00! Come out and watch your Bulldogs.
