Internet Safety & zScaler
Why zScaler
We use zScaler, a cloud-based web filtering system, to help keep students safe online, zScaler:
- Filters web content to block inappropriate or harmful material (e.g., adult content, violence, gamblin, and proxies)
- Works both on and off campus while students are using district devices
- Helps ensure we stay compliant with federal CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act) requirements
Monitoring Policies
In addition to district-wide monitoring tools, teachers supervise student technology use throughout the school day. Whether in the classroom or media center, educators make every effort to ensure devices are being used appropriately and for learning purposes.
We also use district-managed tools such as:
• Gaggle — Monitors student Google Workspace accounts (Gmail, Docs, Drive) for signs of self-harm, bullying, or inappropriate content.
• Mosyle — Our mobile device management system that enforces restrictions, blocks unauthorized apps, and helps ensure device safety.
• Real-Time Alerts — Our Technology Team receives and reviews alerts to ensure quick responses to potential issues.
All monitoring is performed in accordance with FERPA, COPPA, and state data privacy laws to protect student information while promoting a safe and supportive digital learning environment.
Internet Safety
Students receive lessons in Digital Citizenship each year, including:
• How to protect personal information
• How to spot scams, phishing, and misinformation
• The importance of respectful communication online
• Responsible use of Artificial Intelligence tools
We teach students that digital actions have real-world consequences — and model that behavior through staff expectations.
Blocked Websites
Our zScaler filter automatically blocks:
• Adult content, violence, hate speech, gambling, and illegal activity
• VPNs, proxies, and file-sharing platforms
• Sites known for malware, phishing, or distracting content
