Responsible Use Policy

The Rowan-Salisbury Schools Responsible Use Policy (RUP) outlines how students and staff are expected to use technology safely, respectfully, and appropriately. It applies to all school-issued devices, accounts, and internet access — whether at school or at home.

Why It Matters

Our RUP ensures that technology is used to support learning while protecting student privacy, promoting digital citizenship, and keeping our network safe. All students and families are expected to review and follow this policy each year.

  • Use devices for school-related purposes only — not for games, social media, or personal entertainment during class time.

Be respectful online — no cyberbullying, inappropriate messages, or harmful content.

Keep your login information private — never share passwords or use someone else’s account.

Do not attempt to bypass filters or security using VPNs, proxies, or other tools.

Follow copyright rules — don’t plagiarize or reuse content without permission or citation.

Use AI responsibly — only with teacher approval, and always cite when used in your work.

Never attempt to repair your device at home or modify system settings.

  • Violations of the Responsible Use Policy may result in:

    Loss of device privileges

    Disciplinary action

Full repair or replacement charges for intentionally damaged or misused equipment

Investigation for inappropriate or illegal activity

  • Parents and students must review and acknowledge the RUP annually. The policy is available for download here.
